New Delhi, Jul 7 (PTI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has identified 38 new parking sites with a combined capacity of more than 6,100 vehicles, taking the total number of authorised parking locations under the civic body's jurisdiction to 445, officials said on Tuesday. They said the addition of new sites is aimed at improving organised parking facilities and reducing roadside congestion in busy commercial and residential areas across the capital. According to officials, the civic body manages 408 parking sites with a total capacity of more than 84,000 vehicles across its 12 zones. This includes space for around 52,000 four-wheelers, 30,000 two-wheelers and 1,386 buses and trucks. "The newly-identified 38 parking sites together can accommodate 4,723 four-wheelers, 1,311 two-wheelers and 148 buses and trucks," a senior official said, adding that tenders for the project will be floated this week. Among the new locations, the largest parking facility has been identified at Dwarka Sector-14, on a stretch near the Vegas Mall, with capacity for 806 vehicles. Another major site at the British Salon-Kakrola Mod to Dwarka Mod service lane in the same zone will accommodate more than 700 vehicles. The Patparganj Industrial Area in Shahdara South Zone accounts for a sizable capacity among the newly-identified sites, with multiple plots and road stretches together adding over 1,800 parking spaces. New parking locations have also been identified in Karol Bagh, Rohini, City SP, South, West, Central, Civil Lines and Keshav Puram zones. According to officials, the Central Zone has the highest parking capacity among all MCD zones, with more than 23,000 parking spaces across 54 parking sites, including 27 cluster parking facilities. It is followed by the Keshav Puram Zone with capacity for 9,135 vehicles across 56 sites and the Shahdara North Zone with 8,785 spaces at 74 sites. The South Zone has parking capacity for 8,087 vehicles across 41 sites, while Karol Bagh has space for 7,995 vehicles at 51 locations. The City SP Zone has capacity for 6,884 vehicles across 46 sites, followed by the West Zone with 6,803 spaces at 29 sites and the Rohini Zone with 6,492 spaces across 11 sites.
