New Delhi, Jul 13 (PTI) A 2019-batch Delhi Police sub-inspector died allegedly by suicide after shooting himself with his service revolver inside Madhu Vihar police station in east Delhi on Monday, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Sub-Inspector Sumesh.
According to preliminary information, the incident came to light around noon when the officer's wife reached the police station after he repeatedly failed to answer her phone calls.
She informed police personnel that she had been unable to contact him for some time.
Police personnel then opened the room where the sub-inspector was staying and found him lying with a bullet injury, the officer said.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Senior police officers reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident. A crime team and forensic experts inspected the scene and collected evidence. The area was cordoned off as part of the investigation.
Officials said the circumstances leading to the officer's death are being examined and no conclusion has been drawn at this stage.
According to the police, they are analysing forensic evidence and other material collected from the spot to ascertain the sequence of events. The weapon involved in the incident is also being examined as part of the probe.
They said all angles are being looked into and the exact cause behind the incident will be established only after completion of the investigation and receipt of forensic findings.
The body has been sent for postmortem, the police said. PTI BM APL
