Shimla, Jul 13 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday announced a tentative schedule for the internal organisational elections of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) in the state.
NSUI is the official student wing of the Indian National Congress.
Addressing a press conference here, Sukhu said, "The organisational elections will be conducted under the supervision of the Chief Central Election Authority and the designated State Election Observers, in accordance with the Constitution of the NSUI. The objective of this exercise is to strengthen the organisation at every level by ensuring a fair, transparent and democratic electoral process while encouraging maximum participation of students across the state." He said the process is designed to provide every eligible student an equal opportunity to participate and contribute towards building a stronger and more representative NSUI in Himachal Pradesh.
In the first phase, college and university unit elections will be held, for which nominations could be filed from July 24 to 28.
A membership drive will be held in all colleges and universities from August 4 to September 1; the last date for membership payment will be September 2.
The exact date of election is yet to be announced, though the date of result declaration was fixed on October 6.
District and state elections will be held in the second phase. For this, nominations could be filed from October 7 to 9.
The election will be held on October 17. The results will be declared on October 20. PTI COR RUK RUK
