Indore, Jul 9 (PTI) Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday inspected the 245-km Madhya Pradesh stretch of the upcoming Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and directed strict adherence to road safety and other standards, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials said.
About 245 km of the 1,350-km Delhi-Mumbai Expressway passes through Mandsaur, Ratlam, and Jhabua districts of Madhya Pradesh, they added.
"Work on all nine packages of the expressway in Madhya Pradesh has already been completed. During the inspection, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways personally reviewed every aspect and discussed the situation with officials to understand the ground reality," NHAI regional officer NL Yeotkar told PTI.
Gadkari expressed satisfaction with the arrangements for the eight-lane expressway and also directed officials to ensure strict adherence to road safety, maintenance, and other standards, Yeotkar added.
Officials said Gadkari's convoy entered Gujarat via this route after inspecting the expressway stretch in Jhabua district.
According to officials, once the expressway is fully operational, the distance from Delhi to Mumbai can be covered in just 12 hours, compared to the current 24 hours.
Vehicles will be able to run at a maximum speed of 120 kilometres per hour on the eight-lane Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, they said. PTI HWP MAS BNM
