New Delhi, Jul 10 (PTI) Delhi Lt Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Friday directed Delhi Development Authourity (DDA) to posit Dwarka sub-city as a "clean, employment-generating and major investment destination". Sandhu, who chaired a meeting of several stakeholders including officials from the industries and tourism departments, urged the authorities to implement measures to develop Dwarka into a major economic and commercial hub. "The L-G said Dwarka's proximity to the international airport, its seamless connectivity, and its maturing urban ecosystem together make it investment-ready across sectors, creating opportunities in commerce, hospitality, healthcare, education and technology," DDA said in a statement. During the interaction, the L-G emphasised that urban redevelopment and infrastructure upgrade are essential to sustaining Delhi's long-term economic growth. The L-G placed particular emphasis on ensuring that Dwarka's industrial growth remains clean, sustainable and non-polluting, staving off industries that could compromise the sub-city's environment quality. "The L-G stated that focus should be on fostering a labour-centric industrial base capable of generating large-scale employment opportunities for the local workforce, so that Dwarka's economic rise translates directly into livelihood gains for the people of Delhi," DDA said. During the meeting, DDA officials informed L-G Sandhu that land has been made available to support future investments and the authority is working closely with stakeholder agencies to streamline approval processes. "The recently approved Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Policy, formulated under the guidance of L-G, brings together all concerned agencies to facilitate seamless, single-point and time-bound approvals for eligible projects," official said. The interaction was attended by representatives from real estate, infrastructure development, hospitality and healthcare sectors. "Industry representatives suggested creating a more investor-friendly ecosystem in Dwarka and Delhi through improved infrastructure, research and innovation facilities, a streamlined single-window clearance mechanism and simplified approval processes," the DDA statement said. They also emphasised the need to promote hospitality, tourism and healthcare infrastructure, incentivise knowledge-based industries and leverage infrastructure such as Yashobhoomi and Bharat Mandapam, supported by adequate accommodation capacity, to drive investment and economic growth. During the meeting , the Indian Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) representatives informed that a plan to develop five-star hotel infrastructure is being considered to strengthen Delhi's hospitality ecosystem.
