Bijnor/Mirzapur, Jul 10 (PTI) Two teenagers were swept away in the Malan River in Bijnor district while a man and his two children were injured after a rain-weakened road suddenly caved in beneath their moped in Mirzapur as heavy showers continued to affect parts of Uttar Pradesh on Friday, officials said.
In Bijnor, Circle Officer Abhay Kumar Pandey said Shaban (15), Alim (16) and Sadim (15), all residents of Radhagan locality in Kiratpur, had gone to bathe in the Malan river on Friday evening.
The officer said the three jumped from a bridge into the river and were trying to swim underneath it when Shaban and Alim were caught in the strong current and were swept away.
Sadim managed to swim to safety. Divers were continuing the search for the missing boys, he said.
In Mirzapur, a moped rider identified as Guddu Khan and his two children were injured after a stretch of road suddenly collapsed in Rambagh locality's Machhli Gali on Friday night amid heavy rain.
Eyewitnesses said the road appeared normal but caved in as the moped passed over it, causing all three occupants to fall into the crater. The incident was captured on CCTV footage that later surfaced on social media.
Municipal officials reached the spot and began relief and rescue work.
Executive Officer of the municipal body, Gowa Lal, said a report had been sought from the junior engineer. Preliminary information suggested the road was 10-15 years old, while new construction work was being carried out nearby, he said. PTI COR CDN APL APL
