Chatra (Jharkhand), Jul 10 (PTI) A 28-year-old CRPF jawan was killed after a speeding heavy vehicle hit his motorcycle in Jharkhand's Chatra district, police said on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Lakshman Kumar Yadav, who was a resident of Birajpur village in Lawalong police station area.
The deceased, who was posted in Jammu and Kashmir, had come home seven days ago on a month-long holiday, they said.
The accident took place on the Simaria-Chatra Road on Thursday evening when Yadav was returning home from Simaria. The truck collided head-on with the motorcycle and fled the spot, a police officer said.
He was initially rushed to Simaria Referral Hospital, from where doctors referred him to Hazaribag. While being shifted to RIMS Ranchi from Hazaribag, he died on the way.
"Following the victim's death, enraged locals and family members of the victim launched a road blockade, which is continuing for the last 18 hours. They are demanding Rs 25 lakh as compensation for the victim's family," Simaria police station officer-in-charge Surya Pratap Singh said.
Simaria circle officer Gaurav Kumar said the Chatra deputy commissioner has taken cognisance of the matter and the victim's body has been sent to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Talks are underway with the family members to persuade them to lift the blockade. PTI COR RPS RPS ACD
