Couple dies of electrocution in UP' Pilibhit

Pilibhit, Jul 7 (PTI) A middle-aged couple allegedly died of electrocution in Meerpur Hempura here on Tuesday, police said. The deceased were identified as Harishankar Kushwaha (52) and his wife Kamla Devi (50). According to police, the couple had returned home at around 11 pm on Monday after attending a wedding ceremony. Their son, Sant Kumar, told police that when he went to open the family's grocery shop located in the front portion of the house at around 7 am on Tuesday, he found his parents lying dead on the floor. He also noticed that a table fan was stuck to his mother's face. Police suspect that the table fan developed an electrical fault during the night, causing both of them to suffer a fatal electric shock while they were asleep. Senior police officials and a team from the revenue department visited the spot and carried out an inspection. Area Lekhpal Raj Kumar said the bereaved family would be provided government compensation under the state's scheme. Police said the exact cause of death would be ascertained after the post-mortem.
