Chandigarh, Jul 9 (PTI) Newly appointed Congress in-charge for Haryana Sanjay Dutt on Thursday called for utmost vigilance in the SIR exercise underway in the state, asking state leaders to ensure that no ineligible voter should be included in the electoral roll and no eligible voter should be removed without valid reasons.
Dutt, who is currently on a visit to the state, held a series of meetings with the party's district presidents and issued necessary directions about the special intensive revision (SIR) of voter rolls being conducted by the Election Commission.
The Congress leader said that this was not merely an organisational responsibility but also an important duty towards safeguarding the sanctity of democracy, ensuring free and fair elections, and protecting every citizen's constitutional right to vote.
At such a crucial stage, the role of the party's MPs, former MPs, MLAs, former MLAs, district congress presidents, booth level agents and all responsible office-bearers and party workers becomes extremely important, he said.
Every polling booth should be closely monitored, Dutt said, urging all office-bearers and workers to discharge this responsibility with sincerity, honesty and complete dedication.
During the meeting, Dutt said that every office-bearer and party worker has a responsibility to faithfully, unitedly and wholeheartedly implement the directions of the Congress high command.
He emphasised that an organisation becomes stronger when its campaigns effectively reach the grassroots and connect with the people at the booth level.
He further stated that it is the responsibility of every Congress worker to ensure the successful implementation of every party campaign at the grassroots.
With this objective, he directed all Congress district presidents to undertake a comprehensive public awareness campaign on the SIR process and ensure the active participation of the organisation at every polling booth.
All district-level programmes should be organised in a united, coordinated and effective manner under the directions of Haryana Congress president Rao Narender Singh, he said.
Dutt also directed that detailed reports of every programme must be submitted to the Pradesh Congress Office and the party connect centre within the stipulated time to ensure proper coordination and effective organisational monitoring.
Dutt expressed full confidence in the commitment, hard work and dedication of every Congress worker in Haryana.
He asked all workers to carry out their responsibilities with vigilance and commitment in accordance with the guidance and directions of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal.
Rao Narender Singh also met district congress committee presidents individually and held detailed discussions on organisational matters. PTI SUN SKY SKY
