Mangaluru (Karnataka), Jul 9 (PTI) A CISF jawan, who had returned home on leave from his posting in Jammu for SIR related work, was killed in a road accident here, police said on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Sitaram Gowda, a native of Putye in Koyila village of Kadaba taluk in Dakshina Kannada district, they said.
He was serving with the CISF and was posted at the Central Jail in Jammu, police said.
According to police, Gowda had come to his hometown on leave on July 3. On Monday, he had travelled to his native village to submit documents related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
While returning, he met with a major road accident near the KPT area in Kadri police limits in Mangaluru. He sustained critical injuries in the crash and died before he could be shifted to a hospital, police said.
The exact circumstances leading to the accident are yet to be established.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
