Bus overturns in Latur injuring 22 students: Driver, two attached to school booked

Latur, Jul 9 (PTI) The driver of a school bus that overturned in Latur district, injuring 22 students, and the headmaster and director of the educational institution the vehicle was linked to were booked on Thursday for alleged lapses in adhering to safety regulations, a police official said. The bus had overturned on Wednesday morning at Sandol Mod in Chakur tehsil allegedly due to rash and negligent driving, he added. "Twenty-two students travelling in the bus sustained injuries. They are undergoing treatment. The bus driver allegedly did not possess a valid driving licence. The bus driver, the headmaster and director of the educational institution were booked on the complaint of one Madhav Narayan Deshpande," he said. The three have been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act provisions for rash and negligent driving, act that endangers lives, disobedience of lawful order and other offences, the official added. "School managements, institution owners, headmasters, vehicle contractors and bus drivers must strictly follow all government-prescribed safety guidelines for school transportation. Students' safety is of paramount importance," he said. PTI COR BNM
