Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 11 (PTI) BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Saturday said the Railway Ministry had approved special weekly trains from Tamil Nadu to Kerala for the Onam festival.
In a Facebook post thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Nemom MLA Chandrasekhar said the trains would make it easier for people from Kerala to travel home for Onam, the 10-day harvest festival.
Thiruvonam, the main day of the Onam festival, falls on August 26 this year.
The special weekly trains will operate between Chennai/Tambaram and Kollam/Thiruvananthapuram, Chandrasekhar said in his post.
Describing the move as an example of public welfare-oriented governance, he said it would help thousands of people from Kerala travel home comfortably during the festival and ease the rush. PTI HMP SSK
