BJP seeks Guv's intervention for CBI probe into Jamshedpur bar murder

Ranchi, Jul 7 (PTI) A delegation of the Jharkhand BJP, led by its state president Aditya Sahu, on Tuesday met Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, seeking his intervention to order a CBI probe into the murder of Karni Sena leader Himanshu Singh in Jamshedpur. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the governor demanding an impartial investigation into the June 27 killing, the strictest possible action against those responsible and justice for the victim's family. Himanshu and Pratiyush Singh were allegedly attacked after being dragged out of a police patrol vehicle following a brawl over alleged eve-teasing at a bar in Jamshedpur's Bistupur area. Police have so far apprehended five people, including three minors, and launched a manhunt for five others in connection with the case. In the memorandum, the BJP alleged that Himanshu and Pratiyush were assaulted with sharp weapons, including a cleaver, after being pulled out of the police vehicle, while the policemen present remained "mute spectators". The BJP also claimed that the police personnel failed to take effective action to prevent the attack. Himanshu later succumbed to his injuries, while Pratiyush is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kolkata. Describing the incident as evidence of a "complete collapse" of law and order in the state, the BJP alleged that the police were trying to divert attention from the core facts of the case. The party claimed that an attempt was being made to falsely implicate Neeraj Singh, the operator of the bar where the incident took place, while shielding the police personnel who were present at the scene. It further alleged that the state government should have registered a murder case against the policemen on duty and taken immediate action against them, but failed to do so. Claiming that people have lost faith in the ongoing investigation, the BJP urged the governor to intervene and ensure a CBI probe for a fair investigation into the murder. PTI SAN SAN SOM
