Bengaluru, Jul 7 (PTI) A man was arrested for attempting to sell deadly weapons illegally near a bus stand here, police said on Tuesday.
According to police, personnel from the Byatarayanapura Police Station received a tip-off on July 1 that an unidentified man was standing near the parking area of the Satellite Bus Stand with deadly weapons and was planning to sell them illegally.
Acting on the information, police apprehended him and seized five weapons from his bag.
Police did not disclose the identity of the accused in their statement.
"During interrogation, the accused confessed that he had come to sell the weapons illegally to earn easy money," a senior police officer said.
The accused was produced before a court on July 2 and remanded to five days of police custody, he said.
During questioning, the accused allegedly told police that he was also selling ganja and would sometimes accept mobile phones from buyers in exchange when they did not have enough cash.
Based on the information provided by him, police conducted a follow-up search on July 3 and recovered 18 more weapons from a place near his residence.
The cache allegedly included weapons of 13 different kinds, all kept without a valid licence, police said.
Police also seized 771 grams of ganja and 237 mobile phones of various brands. The total value of the seized property is estimated at Rs 15 lakh.
The accused has now been remanded to judicial custody, police added. PTI AMP SSK
