Itanagar, Jul 16 (PTI): Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday handed over appointment orders to 131 successful candidates of Post-Graduate Teachers (PGT) Examination-2025, urging them to act as agents of educational transformation in the state, an official statement said. Addressing the induction ceremony organised by the general administration department here, Khandu lauded the completely restructured Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) for completing the multi-stage recruitment drive in a transparent, efficient, and time-bound manner. "Following the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to focus on reforms across every sector, we undertook comprehensive reforms in our recruitment agencies. The APPSC was completely restructured by plugging loopholes and strengthening institutional systems. Today, it has become a symbol of transparency and merit-based recruitment," Khandu said. Expressing satisfaction over the consistent performance of female candidates in competitive examinations, the CM said women are leading from the front in public service, governance, and society. Touching upon the education sector, Khandu said while the number of schools in the state grew rapidly after statehood and the implementation of the Right to Education Act, a lack of proper planning over the years diluted the quality of education. "Our focus today is not merely on increasing the number of schools but on ensuring quality education through better infrastructure, adequate manpower, and improved learning outcomes," he said. He highlighted the state's flagship 'Mission Shiksit Arunachal-2029' as the comprehensive roadmap for educational reforms. Under this initiative, more than 600 under-utilised schools have already been rationalised and merged following district-wise stakeholder consultations to establish well-equipped, consolidated model schools with proper hostel facilities. He pointed out that the state government is handholding meritorious students by bearing 70 to 75 per cent of the educational expenses for those securing admissions into the world's top 150 universities under the QS World University Rankings. According to official data, a total of 5,774 candidates had applied for the PGT positions advertised on August 10, 2025. Following the preliminary test on November 2, 2025, and the main examination on February 11-12, 2026, 337 candidates reached the final interview stage held in May, out of which 131 candidates were selected.
