Sri Vijaya Puram, May 18: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Jal Shakti ministry to implement Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 for a transparent, accountable and community-centred model of rural water supply management. The MoU was signed between Swati Meena Naik, the joint secretary (Water) in the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the ministry, and Sachin Shinde, the commissioner-cum-secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It was inked in the presence of Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil, Minister of State V Somanna and others. Patil said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Jal Jeevan Mission has penetrated deep into the rural areas and has emerged as a people-centric movement. The Jal Jeevan Mission is a life-impacting mission that is bringing fundamental improvements in the health, dignity and quality of life, particularly for women and rural communities, he said. Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands D K Joshi mentioned that the administration successfully utilised its allocated budget earmarked for the initial phase of the Jal Jeevan Mission.
