New Delhi, July 15 (PTI) Amid the MCD ward committee elections on Wednesday, AAP councillor from Civil Lines and chairman of City-Sadar Paharganj zone, Vikas Tank, joined the BJP, raising the party's tally to 140 in the civic body. Taank, a youth leader from the Valmiki community, joined the BJP in the presence of state president Harsh Malhotra, Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal and party media department head Praveen Shankar Kapoor. Malhotra said inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and swift development works in every ward since the formation of the BJP government in Delhi led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, many councillors from opposition parties have joined the BJP. The BJP, which lost the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections in December 2022, winning 104 of the total 250 wards, has now 140 councillors in the civic body's House. Then the AAP ousted the BJP, which had ruled the MCD for three terms, by winning 134 wards. "I am pleased to become a member of the big BJP family. When the AAP was ruling in Delhi, it did nothing for the welfare of the people," he said. Taank also charged that the AAP had not fulfilled its promises of removing garbage dumps and providing relief to people from house tax. Many AAP councillors have already left the party out of "dissatisfaction" because the party leadership did not address their concerns, he said. PTI VIT ASD ASD
