What you get
PM Jan Dhan Yojana provides zero-minimum balance savings accounts to the unbanked. Benefits include: RuPay Debit Card with accident insurance of Rs 2 lakh (Rs 1 lakh for accounts opened before 28.8.2018), an overdraft facility of Rs 10,000 (after 6 months of satisfactory account operation), life insurance cover of Rs 30,000, and access to all banking services. The account is a gateway to all government DBT benefits (PM-KISAN, NREGA wages, LPG subsidy). Over 52 crore accounts opened as of 2024.
Who can apply
Any Indian citizen aged 10 and above without a bank account. No minimum balance. Even unbanked individuals in rural areas can open accounts at banking correspondents (BC agents). Aadhaar is sufficient for KYC.
