West Godavari Paddy Oil Palm Sugarcane Delta Andhra Pradesh

West Godavari district in the Krishna-Godavari delta is one of India's most productive paddy districts, growing two crops of MTU 1010 (Sona Masoori) and BPT 5204 paddy on its alluvial delta soils under Godavari canal irrigation — among the highest per-hectare rice yields in India. The district is also AP's largest oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) cultivation area, planted under the government's palm oil mission to substitute imported palm oil, with Indonesian-developed tenera hybrid palms replacing traditional coconut and paddy in certain blocks. West Godavari's Eluru city is a major handloom production centre for carpet weaving (Eluru cotton durries) and the district's Kolleru Lake — India's largest freshwater lake — is a designated Ramsar wetland hosting migratory pelicans, painted storks, and egrets.
