Pantnagar Agricultural University: India's First Agri University

G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology at Pantnagar in Udham Singh Nagar holds the distinction of being India's first agricultural university established in 1960. Known as the birthplace of India's Green Revolution, Pantnagar developed high-yielding wheat and paddy varieties that transformed Indian agriculture. The university's experimental farms spread across the Terai plain conduct research on crop improvement, soil science, animal husbandry, and agricultural engineering. Its technology transfer model connecting research with farmers became the template for agricultural universities across India. The institution continues to develop climate-resilient crop varieties suited to Himalayan foothills.
