Satara district's Mahabaleshwar-Panchgani hill station at 1,300 metres is India's premier strawberry growing area, where cool misty conditions on the Western Ghats plateau support summer-fruiting strawberries whose season (November-March) draws thousands of tourists to pick-your-own strawberry farms along the Mahabaleshwar road. Mahabaleshwar also grows mulberry for sericulture, raspberries, and the celebrated Mahabaleshwar honey from the ghats' wildflower meadows.
