Weaver Community Food Tradition and Festivals of Sircilla
Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team
Sircilla's weaving community has its own distinct food traditions reflecting their work schedule and cultural heritage. Weavers' daily meal is typically prepared by women in the household while the men work the looms — requiring quick preparation times and foods that sustain through long hours at the loom. Pesarattu (green gram pancakes) with ginger-coconut chutney is a characteristic weaver community breakfast. During the annual Weaver's Pongal (a special Sankranti celebration for the weaving community), families cook sweet pongal on new earthen pots outside the weaving shed, offering the first ladleful to the loom — a ritual honouring the tool that sustains the family. The weaving community's cooperative holds annual Raksha Bandhan celebrations distributing sweets and sarees to women weavers.
