Nashik Grape Raisin Wine Cooperative Maharashtra
Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team
Nashik district in Maharashtra is the grape capital of India, producing table grapes, raisin grapes, and wine grapes on over one hundred thousand hectares of black cotton soil vineyards. Thompson Seedless and Sharad Seedless varieties are dominant for raisin production. Grapes are dried on in-field paper trays for three to four weeks under wire-frame shade structures to produce golden raisins exported to West Asia and Europe. Cooperative cold chain facilities in Niphad and Dindori provide pre-cooling and refrigerated transport to Mumbai port. Nashik wine vineyards — Sula, York, Grover Zampa — are concentrated in the Nandur-Madhmeshwar wine trail area. Grape cooperative growers have organised collective bargaining with wineries on contract farming terms since 2018. Maharashtra Grape Growers Association advocates for minimum support price mechanism for wine grapes.
