Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team
Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh is called Peetal Nagri — Brass City — and is the largest brassware manufacturing hub in India and one of the world largest exporters of decorative brass and metal goods. Over four hundred thousand artisans in Moradabad and surrounding Sambhal, Amroha, and Rampur work in small foundries and family workshops casting, hammering, and engraving brass and zinc alloy. Traditional casting is done by the lost-wax and sand-casting methods. Artisans engrave floral arabesque and Mughal motifs using small chisels on platters, vases, trays, and animal figurines. Cooperative artisan clusters receive MSME cluster development scheme support for design training, shared finishing equipment, and export documentation. India Brass ware export from Moradabad cluster exceeds three thousand crore rupees annually.
