Lakhisarai Sheikhpura Small District Paddy Pulses Bihar
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Lakhisarai and Sheikhpura are two of Bihar's smallest districts carved from Munger, occupying the transitional zone between the Ganga alluvial plain and the Chota Nagpur plateau foothills where paddy is cultivated on valley floors and pulses on upland terrace plots. Lakhisarai's Son river tributary and the Harohar river provide irrigation water for kharif paddy and rabi wheat, while Sheikhpura's farmers rely on shallow tubewells for supplemental irrigation. The ancient Ashoka pillar at Lauriya Nandangarh in the adjacent region attests to Mauryan administrative presence throughout the Bihar plateau, and Lakhisarai contains ruins of Buddhist monasteries from the Pala period in the Ajay river valley.
