Jalandhar Punjabi Jutti Leather Footwear Craft
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Punjabi jutti is the traditional embroidered leather slipper made by cobbler communities in Jalandhar and surrounding villages, with uppers cut from buffalo or camel leather and hand-embroidered with silk thread in chikankari or zardozi style. Jalandhar's jutti craftsmen differentiate their work by the quality of the turned-up toe curl, the density of the embroidery, and the use of mirror-work or bead inlay for bridal juttis. The footwear is sold in Jalandhar's Bhagwan Das market and exported to the Punjabi diaspora in UK, Canada, and the Gulf, fetching three to ten times the price of machine-made imitations.
