Shoolini Mata Temple and Annual Fair Solan Cultural Heritage
Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team
The Shoolini Mata temple in Solan town gives the city its name (Solan derives from Shoolini) and hosts one of the district's major annual fairs drawing pilgrims and traders from across the region. The temple dedicated to the goddess Shoolini is the presiding deity of Solan with centuries of continuous worship maintaining the town's religious and cultural identity. The Shoolini Fair in June is a week-long event combining religious observance with commercial activity, folk performances, and community gathering. Traditional folk performances including Nati dance, traditional music, and theatrical presentations mark the fair. The fair historically served as a major commercial event for surrounding hill communities to exchange agricultural products and purchase manufactured goods before modern road connectivity.
