Dimapur Naga Nagaland Commerce Cooperative Economy

Dimapur in the Dimapur district of Nagaland is the commercial capital of the state, situated on the Brahmaputra plain at the foothills where the Nagaland hills meet the Assam lowland. Dimapur hosts the Naga tribal craft emporiums, wholesale markets for Naga agricultural produce including kholiho king chilli bhut jolokia, bamboo shoot, akhuni fermented soyabean, and dry fish, and is the transport hub for goods entering the hill districts. Naga tribal cooperative societies from all sixteen Naga tribes sell craft and agricultural products through the Nagaland Emporium in Dimapur. The large Naga market in Dimapur is a hub for tribal bead jewellery, warrior shawls, spear handles, and traditional woodwork sold by tribe-specific cooperatives. The Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency coordinates bamboo product cooperatives from hill districts for sale in Dimapur and export. King chilli the bhut jolokia from Nagaland and Assam holds the Guinness world record for hottest chilli and is exported as a premium specialty product.
