Bijnor district on the Ganga's east bank in western UP grows sugarcane extensively on the Ganga canal-irrigated soils, with hundreds of gur (jaggery) making kolhu units producing the UP gulab gur (pink jaggery with natural rose tinge from the local cane variety). Hapur district (carved from Ghaziabad in 2011) near Delhi is a major wholesale market for agricultural produce, with the Hapur grain and pulse market serving as a price-setting hub for north India's dal and grain trade. Allahabad pink guava — grown in the orchards of Shringverpur and Soraon blocks in Prayagraj district — is one of India's premium guava varieties with a distinctive pink flesh and aromatic sweetness; it has GI status.
