Bhagalpur Tussar Silk Katia Weaving Bihar

Bhagalpur in Bihar is the silk city of eastern India, producing Tussar (wild silk) woven into a range of fabrics — katia, ghicha, and woven sarees. The Bhagalpur Silk GI covers the unique texture of katia cloth woven from coarser Tussar filaments. Weavers of the Ansari and Pandit communities operate traditional pit looms producing saris, stoles, and dress material. Bhagalpur silk employs over 1 lakh weavers. The state government has set up Silk Technology Development Centre in Bhagalpur for quality improvement and market access.
