Shyam Benegal, born on December 14, 1934, in Hyderabad, was a creative leader who changed the way Indian cinema was seen. During his long and successful career, he made many famous and well-respected movies like Ankur (1974), Nishant (1975), Manthan (1976), and Bhumika (1977). His stories often talked about important social problems and the challenges faced by people who were not treated fairly.

Benegal’s influence on Indian cinema was not just in movies. He was also very important in Indian television, where he created popular shows like Bharat Ek Khoj, which was based on Jawaharlal Nehru’s book The Discovery of India.
