Tragic Assault at Pune’s Swargate Bus Stand Sparks Outrage and Demands for Justice

 In a deeply distressing incident that has sent shockwaves across the nation, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped inside a stationary state transport bus at Pune’s bustling Swargate bus stand on the morning of February 25, 2025. The accused, identified as 37-year-old Dattatraya Ramdas Gade, is currently evading arrest, prompting a massive manhunt by law enforcement agencies.

1. The Assault: The victim, a preoperative counsellor at a local hospital, arrived at the Swargate bus terminus around 5:30 am, intending to travel to her hometown in Phaltan. While waiting, she was approached by Gade, who deceitfully informed her that her bus was parked elsewhere. Trusting his guidance, she followed him to an unlit, empty Shivshahi bus. Once inside, Gade allegedly bolted the door and sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene.
   
2. Delayed Reporting: In a state of shock, the survivor initially boarded another bus to Phaltan. During the journey, she confided in a friend over the phone, who urged her to report the crime. Heeding this advice, she returned to Pune and filed a complaint at the Swargate police station later that morning.
   

Manhunt for the Accused

1. Criminal Background: Dattatraya Ramdas Gade is a known offender with multiple cases of theft, robbery, and chain-snatching registered against him in Pune and the neighboring Ahilyanagar district. He has been out on bail since 2019.
   
2. Search Operations: Pune Police have formed 13 dedicated teams, comprising eight from the Crime Branch and five from the Swargate Police Station, to apprehend Gade. Authorities have released his photograph to the public and announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for information leading to his arrest.
