Cotton and Paddy Cultivation in Rajanna Sircilla Godavari Basin

Rajanna Sircilla district's agricultural landscape is divided between the Godavari canal irrigated paddy zones along the river and the dryland cotton and jowar cultivation on the black soil plateau. The Manair tributary flowing through the district supplements the Godavari canal with seasonal irrigation. Traditional paddy varieties suited to the district's conditions — particularly the mid-duration BPT 5204 — are promoted by agricultural cooperatives. Sugarcane cultivation is expanding in the canal command area, supported by a new cooperative sugar mill. The district's agricultural cooperatives provide pre-sowing credit for seed and fertiliser as well as post-harvest warehousing to enable farmers to wait for better prices.
