Kullu Apple Kullu Shawl Dussehra International Fair Himachal Pradesh
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Kullu district in the Beas river valley is India's premier apple district — the Kullu-Manali belt of apple orchards produces Red Delicious, Royal Delicious, and Golden Delicious varieties at 1,200–2,200m altitude, contributing to Himachal's Rs 3,500 crore apple economy. The Kullu shawl — hand-woven woollen shawl with geometric kilim-style patterns in earthy tones — is a GI-tagged product woven by Kinnauri and Kullu weavers on traditional frame looms using local sheep and Angora wool. The Kullu Dussehra — a 7-day international fair (October) when 300+ village deities (devatas) converge in Dhalpur ground in palanquins — is the largest gathering of Himachali folk deities and one of India's most distinctive festival traditions.
