Kokum Garcinia Fruit Konkan Maharashtra

Kokum (Garcinia indica) is an acidic purple fruit grown exclusively in the Konkan coastal belt of Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Goa. The dried rind (kokum) is used to make kokum sharbat, amrit kokum concentrate, and kokum butter (a fat used in cosmetics and chocolates). Kokum is a GI-tagged Konkan product. The fruit ripens in April-May and is sun-dried by tribal and farm families for year-round use. Kokum butter is exported to European organic cosmetics companies.
