Khurja Blue Pottery and Ceramics — Uttar Pradesh

Contributed by System

Khurja in Bulandshahr district is India's largest pottery production hub, producing 50% of India's crockery. Traditional Khurja pottery uses local earthenware clay fired at 1,000°C in wood kilns. Blue pottery in Khurja follows Jaipur blue pottery techniques with Persian cobalt blue glaze. Modern ceramic units produce bone china, hotel crockery, and export tableware. 25,000 families are engaged. MSME has set up a Ceramics Testing Institute for quality certification. Cooperative societies supply raw clay and fire kilns communally to reduce fuel cost. A single karighar (workshop) produces 5,000 pieces/day.
