Etawah Chambal Gharial Cattle Breeding Heritage Uttar Pradesh

Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

Etawah district on the Chambal-Yamuna confluence is the site of UP's Government Cattle Breeding Farm at Etawah — one of India's largest state cattle research facilities where Murrah buffalo semen and crossbred cattle technology are developed for distribution to dairy farmers across northern India. The Chambal ravines of Etawah were the territory of the most infamous dacoits of the 20th century — Phoolan Devi, Man Singh — whose exploits shaped popular narratives of Chambal's social banditry tradition. The National Chambal Gharial Sanctuary passes through Etawah, and the district's Etawah Safari Park (Safari Zone) showcases the Asiatic lion reintroduction programme proposed for the Kumbar Kshetra forest area.
