Bengaluru's Central Silk Board headquarters and the Government Silk Weaving Factory (1912) preserve the mulberry sericulture knowledge base for southern India, where the city's Dharmarajendra Road silk market — known as Chickpet — remains India's largest wholesale silk trading hub connecting Karnataka's raw silk production to weavers in Kancheepuram, Varanasi, and Pochampally. Bengaluru's Hosiery industry in the Peenya industrial area produces undergarments, socks, and cotton knit wear that supplies 40% of India's branded hosiery market from this single district. The city's traditional craft of rosewood inlay furniture (Mysore-Bengaluru style) continues in small workshops in the Chamrajpet and Gandhibazaar areas alongside the IT industry.
