Pochampally Double Ikat Silk Weaving Telangana
Contributed by System
Pochampally (Bhoodan Pochampally) in Yadadri district is synonymous with the double ikat technique — where both warp and weft threads are resist-dyed before weaving, requiring extraordinary precision to align patterns. Silk and cotton ikat sarees take 4–7 days each. Motifs include diamond, temple, and peacock patterns. The village has 5,000 handlooms and received UNESCO recognition as a Creative City of Crafts. Cooperative societies handle raw material procurement and marketing. Exports to USA, Europe, and Japan drive premium pricing.
