Ludhiana Textile Dyeing Printing Industry
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Ludhiana's textile processing zone handles dyeing, bleaching, and screen-printing of millions of metres of grey fabric produced by its hosiery cluster. Processing units in Tajpur Road and Haibowal use reactive and disperse dyes in continuous dyeing machines, and a separate screen-printing cluster in Sherpur Colony prints cotton and synthetic blends for kurta-pajama and dress material markets. The sector employs thousands of workers but generates significant effluent; the Punjab Pollution Control Board operates a Common Effluent Treatment Plant in Ludhiana to manage the dyehouse waste from this concentrated industrial zone.
