New Delhi, Jun 1 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday spoke to chief ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim and the governor of Manipur in the wake of heavy rains in their states and assured them of all possible help to tackle the situation.

The home minister said that the Modi government stands like a rock in support of the people of the Northeast.

“Spoke with the Chief Ministers of Assam, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh and Governor of Manipur in the wake of ongoing heavy rainfall in their states. Also assured them of every possible help to tackle any situation,” he wrote on ‘X’.

Many parts of the Northeastern states were facing a flood-like situation due to heavy rain.

Over 78,000 people have been affected in more than 15 districts in Assam due to the flood. Road transport and train and ferry services have also been hit due to the inundation caused by heavy rain across the state over the last few days, officials said.

Nine people have died in landslides triggered by torrential rain in Arunachal Pradesh in the last two days.

Nearly 1,500 tourists were stranded in various parts of north Sikkim on Saturday as the main road was blocked due to landslides triggered by incessant rains, officials said.

One person was killed, two were injured and eight others went missing when a vehicle in which 11 tourists were travelling plunged into the Teesta River in the Mangan district of Sikkim on Thursday night.

Heavy rain wreaked havoc in Manipur, with 3,802 people affected and 883 houses damaged due to floods and landslides across the state in the last 48 hours, officials said on Sunday. PTI ACB RT RT
