A very strong cold wave is likely to get worse in North India from December 30 to January 2, 2025. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says temperatures could drop 3 to 5 degrees Celsius lower than usual.

Areas like Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir will experience very cold weather, along with thick fog that may cause problems for travel and daily activities. At the same time, a weather system from the west is expected to bring rain and snow to Uttarakhand on December 27-28, 2024. There could also be heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in parts of the Western Himalayan region.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has officially warned people to keep themselves warm and avoid traveling unless it’s very important. Those traveling, especially in mountainous regions, should be careful as fog and snowfall might cause problems. The authorities are taking steps to make sure everyone stays safe during this time.

Weather experts say the long-lasting cold spell is due to the combination of western weather systems and cold winds from the north, which are bringing freezing temperatures to the area. They predict two more western weather systems will arrive between January 1 and 6, likely bringing more rain and snow to the Western Himalayan region.

As North India prepares for this severe weather, people are advised to stay updated with information from the IMD and take steps to reduce the effects of the cold wave.
