35 kg food grain per month per AAY family at Rs 2/kg (wheat) and Rs 3/kg (rice) under National Food Security Act for the poorest households.

- 35 kg food grain per family per month
- Rice: Rs 3 per kg (vs market price Rs 35-45/kg)
- Wheat: Rs 2 per kg (vs market price Rs 25-35/kg)
- Coarse grains: Rs 1 per kg (where applicable)
Available through: Public Distribution System (PDS) — Fair Price Shops (Ration shops)
Under PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) extension: NFSA beneficiaries including AAY families received additional 5 kg free grains.
Portability: PM One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) allows using ration card at any fair price shop across India (useful for migrant workers).
How to get AAY card:
- Apply at Gram Panchayat or Food Civil Supplies office
- Must prove extremely low income / destitution status
- AAY identification criteria includes: landless agricultural labourers, rural artisans, slum dwellers, old/infirm/destitute persons receiving old age pension
Who can apply
Poorest of the poor BPL families identified by state governments. Landless agricultural labourers, marginal farmers, rural artisans, construction workers, destitute persons. Must hold AAY ration card under the National Food Security Act 2013.
