In a closely contested match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia defeated India by 184 runs, taking a 2-1 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
On the last day, India was trying to reach a target of 340 runs. They started well at 121/3 but then fell apart, ending at 155 all out. They lost seven wickets in the last session. Captain Rohit Sharma admitted the team’s mistakes, saying, “We missed important chances that could have changed the game for us.”
Sharma also talked about wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, whose bold style of play caused him to get out at a crucial moment. “Rishabh has to learn what is expected of him in these kinds of situations,” Sharma said, stressing the importance of finding a middle ground between being aggressive and playing responsibly.
The game saw a huge crowd of 373,691 people over five days, showing how popular Test cricket is around the world. Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, was key to the team’s success, taking important wickets that helped the home team gain the upper hand.
This loss puts India in a tough spot before the last Test in Sydney. To keep the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the team needs to win the next match. Sharma is still hopeful, saying, “We’ve learned important things and will come back stronger in Sydney.”
The last Test match is set to start on January 3, 2025, at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Both teams will be trying hard to win, making it an exciting end to the series.
