Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences following the tragic crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines flight but firmly denied any responsibility on Russia’s part. The incident, which occurred late Sunday near Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, claimed the lives of all 78 passengers and crew members on board. While the crash has raised questions about regional air traffic control systems, the Russian leader maintained that no operational lapses from Russia were involved.
Initial investigations show that the plane disappeared from radar soon after it took off, and there are signs that a technical problem might have caused it. The plane was heading to Istanbul when it suddenly lost contact and crashed into a distant field. Azerbaijani officials have started a thorough investigation into the crash and are working with global aviation specialists to find out exactly what happened.

At a press conference, Putin said, “This is a very sad event, and we feel deeply for the families who lost loved ones. But the accusations that Russia is involved in this tragedy are not true. We are ready to help Azerbaijan with any technical support needed for the investigation.” His comments came after many Azerbaijani officials and citizens criticized Russia, doubting its role in controlling the area’s airspace.
The crash happened while people are still talking about air safety in the Caspian area. Experts say that Azerbaijan Airlines has a pretty good safety history, with their last big accident happening almost ten years ago. But there are worries about the old planes and facilities used by many airlines in the region, which might have played a part in this recent crash.
Going forward, this tragedy shows how important it is for nearby countries to work together more closely to make flying safer and improve air traffic control systems. As Azerbaijan grieves for its lost citizens, the government is likely to focus on making changes to prevent such a terrible event from happening again.
