Jammu : Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the new Jammu Railway Division on January 6, 2025, marking a significant advancement in India’s railway infrastructure. This new division, under Northern Railway, is expected to enhance operational efficiency and improve connectivity in the region.
The Jammu Railway Division will oversee railway operations in Jammu and Kashmir, benefiting not only the local population but also neighboring states such as Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and the Union Territory of Ladakh. The division aims to streamline administrative processes and facilitate better resource management, leading to improved passenger services and freight movement.
During the virtual inauguration, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the strategic importance of the new division, stating, “The establishment of the Jammu Railway Division is a monumental step towards enhancing connectivity and fostering economic growth in the region.” He also emphasized the government’s commitment to developing state-of-the-art infrastructure to support the nation’s progress.
The inauguration of the Jammu Railway Division is part of a broader initiative to strengthen railway infrastructure across India. On the same day, Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated the Charlapalli New Terminal Station in Telangana and laid the foundation stone for the Rayagada Railway Division building in Odisha. These projects are designed to boost regional connectivity and promote socio-economic development in their respective areas.
The Jammu–Baramulla line, a critical component of the region’s railway network, has seen significant progress in recent years. Notably, the construction of the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River and the completion of India’s longest transportation tunnel have been key milestones. These engineering feats are expected to facilitate seamless travel and trade between Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of the country.
The establishment of the Jammu Railway Division is anticipated to bring numerous benefits, including job creation, increased tourism, and enhanced accessibility to remote areas.
