Starting from Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the Panvel exit on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway’s Mumbai-bound carriageway will be closed for the next six months. The restriction is part of the ongoing construction of a flyover and an underpass at Kalamboli Circle, which is aimed at improving traffic flow in the long term. The project, being undertaken by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation, is expected to reduce congestion and enhance travel times once completed.

Diversion Routes to Manage Traffic
In light of this closure, the Navi Mumbai Traffic Police has announced alternative routes to manage the diverted traffic. Vehicles heading towards Panvel, Goa, and JNPT will be redirected 9.6 kilometers before the Panvel exit, at Kon Phata. Drivers will take a left turn to reach Palaspe Circle and proceed to National Highway 48 (Delhi-Chennai Highway) to continue their journey. These diversions are designed to ensure minimal disruption and keep traffic flowing as smoothly as possible.
Access to MTHL Remains Unaffected
Travelers heading from Pune towards the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also known as Atal Setu, will not face any major disruptions. Vehicles taking this route will continue along the service road at Kon Phata without any additional detours, ensuring their journey remains unaffected by the construction.
Impact on Traffic Around Kalamboli Circle
The closure primarily impacts vehicles traveling towards Panvel, JNPT, Mumbra, and Goa. Additionally, those traveling to Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata will also face altered routes. The Kalamboli Circle, a key junction, is a major traffic bottleneck, and the ongoing construction work is expected to significantly improve traffic movement by bypassing several traffic signals in the area.
Long-term Benefits Expected from Construction
The construction of the flyover and underpass at Kalamboli Circle is expected to provide long-term benefits to commuters traveling towards Panvel, JNPT, and Goa. Once completed, the project will help vehicles avoid multiple traffic signals, thus reducing congestion and improving travel time for thousands of daily commuters. The Kalamboli Circle is a critical part of the road network, and the improvements are set to enhance connectivity and traffic management in the region.
Navi Mumbai Police Advise Commuters to Plan Ahead
The Navi Mumbai Traffic Police has urged commuters to plan their journeys accordingly during the next six months. Drivers are advised to follow traffic signs and be cautious while navigating through the alternative routes. Authorities have assured that the traffic police will be closely monitoring the situation to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize inconvenience to commuters.
while the closure of the Panvel exit will cause temporary inconvenience, the long-term benefits of the Kalamboli Circle construction project are expected to significantly ease congestion and improve travel efficiency in the region.
