Sirsa Cotton Organic Farming Dera Sacha Sauda
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Sirsa district in northwestern Haryana is the base of the Dera Sacha Sauda spiritual movement that has promoted organic cotton farming on 20,000 acres of community farmland, producing pesticide-free cotton certified under Global Organic Textile Standard for export to European ethical fashion brands. The organic cotton programme trains farmers in natural pest management, vermicompost, and Jeevamrit bio-fertiliser application, achieving yields comparable to chemical cotton at significantly lower input cost. Sirsa's organic cotton success has attracted premium buyers and is cited nationally as evidence that certified organic farming at scale is viable in India's cotton belt.
