Kurukshetra Mahabharata Battlefield Pilgrimage Heritage

Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

Kurukshetra, the sacred plain where the Mahabharata war was fought according to Hindu tradition, is one of India's most significant pilgrimage sites, drawing millions of visitors to Brahma Sarovar tank, Jyotisar (birthplace of the Bhagavad Gita), and Sannihit Sarovar. The Kurukshetra Development Board manages over 40 heritage sites in the district, and the annual Gita Jayanti Mahotsav celebrates the scripture with cultural performances, Gita recitations, and international spiritual conferences. Craft sellers, flower garland makers, and pilgrimage service providers around Kurukshetra's temples sustain thousands of livelihoods connected to the sacred geography.
