Jalore Rajasthan Granite Quarry Cooperative

Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team

Jalore district in southern Rajasthan contains one of India most important granite deposits, producing pink, red, grey, and blue-pearl granite quarried from the Aravalli hills. Quarrying cooperatives in Bhinmal and Ahore talukas organise small mining companies with shared drilling and blasting equipment. Granite blocks are cut into slabs and tiles at processing plants in Jalore and exported through Chennai and Mundra ports to Saudi Arabia, USA, and Europe. Cooperative quarry workers receive provident fund, safety equipment, and silicosis compensation fund support. Jalore granite competes with Rajasthan Kishangarh Makrana marble at international stone fairs. Child labour was historically a problem in Jalore quarries — cooperative wage standards and school enrolment drives have largely eliminated it.
